John Carter

John Carter

Founder of Simpler Trading®

John started Simpler because he wanted to create a community of traders who educate others simply because they care about other people’s success. His setups, market knowledge, and guidance to continually improve yourself as a trader are invaluable. John is the trading expert everyone turns to when the markets go awry (as they often do), and many of our traders have taken ideas and strategies from him and morphed them into their own strategies. He’s truly one of the best, with a level of passion that draws people in, which has transformed him into the famous trader he is today.

Kody Ashmore

Kody Ashmore

Director of Weekly Options Strategies

One would consider Kody a “Jack of all trades.” While in high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as a rifleman. After leaving the USMC, Kody went to school to become a Paramedic. Kody then decided to combine both professions and started working for the United States government in various “High Threat” locations as a tactical medic. While Kody was overseas, he wanted to find a way to make his money, make him money. He started with day trading, but with laggy and slow internet, he learned that day trading would be impossible to pursue overseas. That's when he turned to swing trading. What drew Kody to swing trading options was the ability to manage risk based on position size and the low capital requirement to make substantial gains. After mastering swing trading, he sought to become a Prop Trader for a firm to leverage his capital further. Since Kody’s main goal in trading was to be able to produce a weekly income for a source of living, short-term trading has always had his attention. Kody seeks to actively pay himself weekly while managing risk.

Allison Ostrander

Allison Ostrander

Director of Risk Tolerance

Allison is an integral part of the Simpler Trading family, where she continues to grow as a trader and shares her over a decade of options trading experience and knowledge within our community. Her experience in not only trading, but teaching others how to trade, shines through in her videos and live market analysis. She has experienced and seen other traders go through the ups and downs of trading. Her goal is to help traders minimize the downs, so their ups can outshine in their account. Allison can easily explain complex trading strategies and chart patterns for traders. Her unique view of how to look at Capital Risk, the Chart, and the Option Chain can give any trader a new perspective on investing.

Joe Rokop

Joe Rokop

Managing Director of Commodities & Equities

Joe Rokop is a commodities and equities trader, as well as a futures specialist. His professional trading experience is in both the commercial and proprietary sectors. With his 15 years of trading experience, Joe focuses on trading commodities, indexes, and equities through futures, options, and OTC derivatives. Right out of college, Joe began his career directly on the New York Mercantile Exchange floor. There he gained an understanding of pattern recognition, understanding volume, and calculated trading strategies. Joe’s professional experience gives him an edge over most retail traders using his deep market flow and volume knowledge. His main goal at Simpler Trading is to help others become better traders and realize better results. He genuinely enjoys sharing his experiences, passing on his extensive knowledge, and coaching his clients toward the achievement of their goals.

Raghee Horner

Raghee Horner

Managing Director of Futures Trading

Raghee’s exposure to the markets began in a rather unconventional way. She began charting her mutual fund progress on engineering graph paper at the age of 15. Once she noticed her money was growing while she was sleeping… she never looked back. That was over 35 years ago. Raghee’s trading style was created by a system-inspired approach and a sequential process for building her trades. She’s most well-known for her specific tools (like her GRaB Candles and 34 EMA Wave). Identifying a dominant market trend is the first step as a trend trader. She uses three exponential moving averages and color-coded candles to visually identify the sentiment, momentum, and trend. Her strategies and indicators allow any trader to approach the market more objectively, removing unsupported bias and emotions that can cloud judgment. Raghee utilizes fundamentals, technicals, and price action to deploy an objective, systematized strategy. Trading futures, currencies, options, and equities across any time frame is Raghee’s area of expertise. If you’re looking for a foot in the door in any of these areas of trading, she’s the best there is.

Henry Gambell

Henry Gambell

Senior Managing Director of Options Trading

With a passion for gambling, he’s the absolute “zen master” when it comes to being a trader. Almost always level-headed, Henry provides the cool, calm, and collected side of trading - a side most traders have struggled with for years. That makes him invaluable as the Lead Content Provider and a fantastic options trading mentor. With his daily tips and tricks, he helps traders see the analytical approach to trading and why you should or shouldn’t logically jump ship. Fast forward to today, Henry can be found diving into the Live Trading Chatroom at the opening bell as the Vice President of Simpler Trading. During his sessions, he focuses heavily on scanning for new setups, managing open trades, and walking traders through new trades. He knows how to break down hard-to-understand macro topics to a finite, easy-to-digest micro-level.

Sam Shames

Sam Shames

VP of Options

Sam specializes in options, equities, and macro trading using short-term signals. He started trading in 2007. He began his career by trading index futures and equities intraday, and later branched out to options which are now his trading vehicle. Sam’s strategy is top-down – the tide first, boats second. A typical path Sam will take before entering a position is understanding the setup on the index (such as S&P or Nasdaq first), then the sector (such as technology, second), and the stock third. This gives him an edge in trading as it shows the money flow from the broad market to stocks. Once he has found a setup, he looks for an entry using multiple timeframe analyses to ensure that the signals are aligned on the weekly, daily, and intraday charts. The strongest setups have clean alignment from the intraday to the weekly.

Taylor Horton

Taylor Horton

VP of Directional Options Strategies

Taylor got an early introduction to trading from his father Jim. At age 17, he introduced Taylor to videos of John Carter, who quickly became a role model and someone Taylor would ultimately model his game after. Not being attracted to the status quo, Taylor decided to finish school online while he devoted all his free time to trading. Since then, Taylor has focused daily on improving his trading skills. He has succeeded in mastering a single setup, the squeeze, and is a strong proponent that one can make a career out of trading nothing but this setup alone. Taylor seeks to teach and educate others on how to make a legitimate career path out of trading. This path allows for freedom, gratification, and success based on their own hard work.

TG Watkins

TG Watkins

Director of Stocks

Over 20 years ago, TG Watkins was a 12-year-old with his dad in the audience of a two-day stock trading seminar learning how to trade. Fast forward a few years, TG graduated with his engineering degree and set off to earn his Series 6 and 63 licenses. He then started his career at New York Life, a national insurance and finance company. After a few years of gaining the real-life experience he was looking for, TG decided to get back into stock trading full-time. TG was running his own trading education service known as MoxieTrader.com for a few years and then bumped into John Carter at the Traders Expo in Las Vegas. This is where his relationship with Simpler Trading began; now, he is one of the talented traders on the team.

David Starr

David Starr

VP of Quantitative Analysis

David is Simpler Trading’s “Mad Scientist.” He is the creator of the popular Voodoo Lines® and Ready, Aim, Fire! indicators. A trained theoretical mathematician who later took his MBA first in his class, he now trades full-time in addition to helping Simpler Trading clients achieve their own success. Many might consider David’s academic achievements and his experience as a strategic management consultant, building companies and taking them public, to be some of the most respected as ideal preparation for success in financial markets. However, he is passionate about stressing that the key to trading success is understanding and managing one’s own emotions. David’s consulting clients prize his ability to provide customized insights into unique business situations.

Chris Brecher

Chris Brecher

Senior Managing Director of Stocks

Chris Brecher grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. After receiving a gift of $50 worth of stocks that appreciated $500, Chris discovered his passion for the stock market. Upon finishing his degree in Paleontology and Marketing, Chris worked in a stock market boiler room (think “The Wolf on Wall Street”). In watching his fellow brokers lose every time by taking shots in options, Chris wanted to find out who was making money on the other side. He found the answer at the Chicago Board Options Exchange. After many years on the floor, he realized that electronic trading was making more money than floor trading, so he made the switch. Since 2003, Chris has opened his own trading educational site and worked as a content provider for Simpler Trading. When it comes to trading, he’ll trade just about everything but Forex. And when it comes to tools, he consistently uses the MACD oscillators to see momentum changes and extremes. He uses different variations of moving averages in different timeframes. In addition to moving averages, he also uses the ATR Trailing Stop to help with direction. His main motto is that preparation is key and that you can’t have an ego – don’t suffer from “fat cat syndrome.” Chris is a great mentor for those who are interested in stocks, day trading, and more.
