Creating A Local Backup Of Your Thinkorswim Studies

As I migrated all my work to a new computer this week, I took the opportunity to create a locally stored backup of my custom studies and strategies in thinkorswim (TOS). For those who are new to the platform, this is not strictly necessary as your custom studies and strategies are saved on the servers that host the TOS platform. As such, you should be able to access your shiny bits on any computer that you log into TOS from. However, being the mildly paranoid type, I tend to save a copy of everything to my local hard drive on a regular basis; “Keeping my feathers numbered” as Foghorn Leghorn would say.

The easiest way I’ve found to do this is to go to your Studies and Strategies Panel, select User Defined from the drop-down list (see image), select all the studies with a Ctrl-A, and then right-click and chose Export. Lather, rinse, repeat for the User Defined Strategies as well.
